Vanya Moneva Choir

Vanya Moneva Choir is the new name of one of the most popular Bulgarian folk choirs Cosmic Voices, conducted by Vanya Moneva, which has received well-deserved international recognition during its twenty-five-year history and undoubtedly belongs to the most valuable cultural treasures of modern Bulgaria. The styles in which they work include processed folklore, church music, contemporary jazz and pop projects, cantata and oratorio music, film and theater productions, world music.

The concert activity of Vanya Moneva and the choristers led by her includes participation in the big Bulgarian festivals March Music Days, Varna Summer, Apollonia, Art Salon, Sofia Music Weeks, European Music Festival, New Year Music Festival; concert tours in Europe, South America, Asia.

The awards also speak for the recognition. The choir is the winner of the Allegro vivace award of the Bulgarian National Radio “Classics in other genres” and the “Golden Pen”. In 2014 for her anniversary she received the Special Award “Crystal Lyre” on Classic FM Radio for her contribution to the Bulgarian musical culture, and maestro Vanya Moneva was named “Musician of the Year” in the public consultation of “Allegro Vivace” on BNR.

In 2003, the choir won the ECHO award of German music producers for the CD “Bulgarian soul” with mezzo-soprano Veselina Katsarova.

And in 2015 the choir won First Prize in the open category of the most prestigious International Choir Competition in the world “Let the nations sing” on European Radio and Television / EBU /.

In 2016 Vanya Moneva Choir recorded a version of the Japanese anthem, presented during the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the reception of the Olympic flame by the hosts in 2020 – Tokyo, Japan.

Another memorable creative moment – on February 1, 2018. Vanya Moneva Choir, together with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, participates in the official opening of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the Bozar Hall in Brussels, Belgium. In the same year, the Vanya Moneva Choir recorded the soundtrack to the SOLO episode of Star Wars.

In 2019, the women’s choir “Vanya Moneva”, which this year celebrates the 25th anniversary of its founding, received an invitation and participated in the prestigious Easter Festival, organized by Valery Gergiev in Moscow. The choir was awarded the “Crystal Lyre” by the Union of Music and Dance Artists and the “Golden Lyre” by the Union of Music and Dance Artists for its 25th anniversary. He gave two big concerts in connection with his quarter-century anniversary within the International Festivals “Sofia Music Weeks” and “New Year’s Festival of the National Palace of Culture”. He released two CDs – “From Christmas to Resurrection” and “The Road”. He recorded the music for the HBO series “HIS DARK MATERIALS” by composer Lorne Balf, a Grammy winner.

Vanya Moneva Choir inspires Bulgarian composers who create music for him. In addition, the ensemble has been working for many years with Japanese composer Jun Miyake, who has written several works for him.

The choir works and is a desired partner with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Big Band of the Bulgarian National Radio and the Folk Music Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio, the Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble, string quartets, percussion ensembles and others.
